There are multiple kinds of Tasks that can be used to represent activities in your process map. The task type can be changed using the Type drop-down in the General tab.

  1. To create a Task, select the task from the BPMN Toolbar.
  2. Drag the task onto the Diagram Frame.
  3. To delete the Task, right-click and select Delete.
  4. To change the size of the task, select a square. Drag the mouse until the task is the appropriate size.
  5. When all the necessary changes have been made, check the process back in.

Tasks can be defined by the following tabs: General, Procedure, Documents, Analysis, Advanced, Properties, Measure, Risks, Controls, and Material.

Task Types

Users can select the type of Task Events in the EPC Modeler.

The selected type is not displayed in the Diagram Frame, however, the selected type will affect the task’s role when implementing workflow.

Task Markers (BPMN 2.0)

Task Markers are utilized to illustrate the flow of specific tasks within processes. These markers highlight when and how the tasks are required to be performed, providing further information to viewers.

Boundary Events (BPMN 2.0)

Tasks can be classified as boundary events to illustrate special circumstances. To add boundary events, please see the steps below:

  1. Select the boundary icon
  2. After clicking on the icon, the Task will add a boundary event icon
  3. A drop-down section will be generated to allow users to provide additional information
  4. Insert a textual description
  5. Identify the boundary task as Interrupting or Non Interrupting

  6. Identify the type of boundary task

7. Users can assign a boundary Task by selecting the icon

8. This will generate a pop-up window allowing users to navigate between environment tasks

9. Select the desired task and a Sequence Flow will be generated between the boundary task and the selected task

Expanded Sub-Process (BPMN 2.0)

Users can expand Sub-Processes within process graphs. By expanding a sub-process, users are provided with a more complete picture of a process.

Groups (Group by Categories) (BPMN 2.0)

BPMN 2.0 allows users to classify and group different items within process maps based on environment-defined categories. These categories, wholly set and defined by environments, can allow an organization to tailor their process maps to industry and business specific circumstances such as cover processes vs support processes.

As seen below, EPC Modeler can classify different flow objects into different categories, thus classifying them based on function, nature or utility.

To add Groups (Group by Categories), please see the steps below:

  1. Select a Flow Object
  2. On the “General Tab” of the flow object, scroll down to the Categories section
  3. Select the icon
  4. This will generate a pop-up menu with a comprehensive list of the available categories the EPC Modelers can use
  5. Select the desired category and it will appear in the Categories section
