There are currently eight types of links available:

  • Conditional Flow
  • Sequence Flow
  • Message Flow
  • Default flow
  • Association flow
  • Directed association flow
  • Bidirected association flow
  • Conversation flow

Conditional flow represents the branching of a process sequence and can be used instead of a gateway. It is visually represented by a full line.
Sequence flow is the default option for links. It is visually represented as a full line and is used to logically order all BPMN shapes, such as tasks, events and gateways.

Message flow is a type of link which indicates the transmission of information between services and tasks. It is visually represented as a dotted line.

  • Default flow
  • Association flow
  • Directed association flow
  • Bidirected association flow
  • Conversation flow

Every link will be, when created, a Sequence Flow link. To change it to another type of link, right click on it and select its desired type from the menu.
