Knowlodge management and a good process design environment is important, but having the ability to easily publish and collaborate around business processes in real-time is essential. Communicating business process management knowledge, policies, ownership and accountability are key elements in deploying consistent process execution and change management. Gaining support and buy-in to changing business processes is key for adoption. The EPC provides a complete environment to not only develop processes but also to review, collaborate and publish process knowledge in real-time, worldwide.

Secure access via the web puts valuable process information in the hands of every employee, no matter where they are located. The ability to maintain threaded discussions on any of the process objects provides a documented feedback channel to capture comments, questions, concerns or new ideas. Integration with your email system allows automatic notification of key events or changes within the process repository. The EPC is not a static environment, but rather a dynamic business communication tool that keepseveryone on the same page.

Protecting company knowledge and efficiently disseminating knowledge for the efficient training of a skilled workforce of professional engineers.
The platform design consulting industry represents a set of major engineering challenge that requires specific knowledge and experience in designing safe and efficient wells. The process of well design from concept to execution planning must be managed with a high degree of verification and standardization in order to ensure that the substantial investment of clients is maximized.

Furthermore, the typical lifecycle of an platform consultation project requires a high level of knowledge management due to continuous work rotations. Resources can change on a weekly basis, due to cycling rotations offshore for either timing or work commitments. In this resource-constrained industry, personnel can also move between different companies with increasing rapidity. This results in a situation where projects must be undertaken by many different teams of engineers who work independently towards the same goal. In order to tackle client projects in a systematic way, the specific steps that are followed during work activities, including key tasks and knowledge, must be captured and distributed.

Key Benefits of knowledge management:
  • Protection against employee knowledge loss
  • Preservation of work experience
  • Cost savings on training
  • The ability to capture tasks clearly and easily
  • Optimization and standardization of work activities
  • Total process governance

  • Maintain a database of company knowledge by mapping standardized and reusable processes in the Enterprise Process Center (EPC).
Due to the high level of resource change, needed a solution that would preserve work methods and employee knowledge regardless of who was executing a task. Their solution was to use the Enterprise Process Center to map work methods, tasks, and knowledge flows. The core well design process was first written down on paper before being transferred to EPC as a process map. Once in the EPC repository, the processes were enriched with all of the necessary inputs and outputs (materials). Explanatory documents were attached to process activities for greater detail in task descriptions, and responsible persons identified and associated with each step.

By mapping these processes in the EPC, is essentially creating a standardized knowledge set that will remain consistent throughout all shifts in resources and ownership. Once approved, the standardized process can be repeated in the same way, using the same basic knowledge sets, regardless of who is performing the tasks. Company knowledge becomes preserved and can be reused or implemented along multiple axes. This allowed to effectively eliminate any inefficiencies that were being caused by the cyclical changes in resources.

    The Objectives
Train a workforce of & well engineers to develop superior technology and operations, bringing greater value to customers.
In order to build a leading workforce of engineers, needed to leverage the agility and clarity that it gained through managing their company knowledge with the EPC. With this new process-oriented approach, not only was information more accessible along the process structure, but it also created of The EPC allowed to clearly define every single role that would be invoked along the process structure in order to make accountability and responsibility clear from the outset of a project.

By relating knowledge information to specific job roles, effectively created a system of training documentation that specified the requirements for each task and its corresponding resource. This allowed for the introduction of new resources through ongoing hiring that can now be trained quickly and without the need for the creation of an entire set of independent training material. Each task is given a logical sequence, making learning the process as easy as possible while enforcing disciplined ways of working and rapid project startup.
    The Benefits
Capturing process knowledge creates logical workflows that can be easily understood by key resources and trainees.
EPC gave the ability to capture their key "How To" knowledge processes in a multi-resource environment, clearly and in a logical task progression, thereby enabling the accelerated training of new employees. This reduced the time management spent in explaining basic concepts, tasks and methods, translating into savings in time and costs.
